Next up in the Catskills Firetower Challenge series is Balsam Lake Mountain fire tower! Introduced by the NYDEC, the Catskills Fire Tower Challenge involves hiking all 6 fire towers in the Catskills to earn a patch and be entered to win some cool hiking gear!

Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Tower is known for one of the best views in the Catskills and we enjoy the hike through the balsam fir forest just as much! This moderate hike is just over four miles and checks a peak off both the fire tower challenge and 3500 club lists. Snacks and a mountain top picnic are included!
